Acknowledged as the scion of the Gwalior musical Gharana (School of Music), Meeta Pandit has emerged as a shining star in the world of classical music. Meeta is the granddaughter and disciple of Padma Bhushan Pt. Krishna Rao Shankar Pandit, the doyen of Northern Indian Classical music in the 20th century, and the daughter of legendary Pt. Laxman Krishnarao Pandit. Her melodious and robust voice coupled with her intricate handling of raagas has won her admirers young and the old alike. Through her rigourous saadhana, she has developed her own unique style (talim?). Besides Khayaal, Meeta is equally popular with genres of Tappa, Bhajan, Thumri, Sufi and cross cultural music.
She has performed extensively in prestigious festivals in India and abroad such as those in France, Germany, the UK, Switzerland, Norway, Italy, the USA, Russia, Pakistan and Bangladesh. Meeta was invited in 2003 by Government of France as Artist in Residence to be based in Paris. In 2004, she was sent as the Cultural Ambassadress for the SAARC Music Festival in Islamabad. Meeta conducts workshops twice a year in France, besides training many students under the guru-shishya parampara (the traditional method of one-to-one teaching) in India.
