Why GDPR Compliance is Still a Challenge for Event Organisers

06-Jun-2019

GDPR is the European Union’s data protection law that gives EU citizens more control over their personal data. Events in particular also deal with highly sensitive personal data – from attendee names, contact details, and so on. But since its implementation, according to the event management software company Eventsforce, which found that four in five survey respondents have faced challenges in complying with the regulation.  In one of the survey, 36 percent of respondents said that privacy policy management and attendee consent is the major issue.

Further, 28 percent of respondents reported that a lack of control over what third parties do with data is also troublesome. Few event planners are unsure about legal basis on how to progress with attendee’s data while others are worried on tracking the huge event data and its illegitimate data access.  Though it is all concerning issues of GDPR, the positive impact of policy is evident. If the above issues are mitigated, GDPR could be a revolutionary step for imbibing confidentiality of attendees and maintaining transparency.
